1837 12 roubles. St. Petersburg mint. Fr-158, Severin-624. Platinum. AU-50 (NGC). 41.32 grams, 35.30 mm. Types as above. Bright silver gray with reflective fields, some tiny rim nicks on both sides including one atop the reverse. Somewhat rippled surfaces indicative of good early platinum, probably one of the original mintage of just 53 pieces. A significant rarity, an excellent example of this largest platinum denomination for type. ($10,000-20,000) Provenance: Purchased from Stack’s, October 23, 1943.
