Peter I (the Great) gold 2 Roubles 1722, Red mint, Bitkin_x000D_ 137 (R), Diakov 2, Petrov (25 Rub), AU53 NGC. Obv. Laureate and_x000D_ armored bust right. Rev. St. Andrew. This rare type is a touch soft_x000D_ in the central areas, with lustrous, minimally marked surfaces._x000D_ This very rare, and popular type, with the unusual St. Andrew_x000D_ reverse, was struck only from 1718 through 1725. Near-mint_x000D_ examples, such as this, are very elusive and seldom offered._x000D_ Peter I was quite active during his reign. He waged a successful_x000D_ major campaign against Sweden, and barely survived a campaign_x000D_ against the Ottoman Empire. During his reign the capital of Russia_x000D_ was moved from Moscow to St. Petersburg and he instituted numerous_x000D_ important civic improvements. Unfortunately, He died without an_x000D_ heir, as his only son died in prison for treason against his_x000D_ father.
