RUSSIA. Tynf, 1709/8IL L. Peter I (The Great) (1689-1725). NGC AU-53.
Possibly Finest Known Extremely Rare 1709/8 Tynf. RUSSIA. Tynf, 1709/8IL L. Peter I (The Great) (1689-1725). NGC AU-53.KM-127(RARE); Bit-3840(R3). EXTREMELY RARE. The only example seen at the grading services. Struck for circulation in Poland where it traded for 12 Kopeks in and around Rzechpospolta. Overdate clearly visible and unmistakably an "8" under the "9". All coins of the Tynf denomination are rare, the 1709 (last year the coin was struck) is exceptionally rare. In addition to the clear overdate, the portrait is of equal clarity. A youthful looking Peter The Great with the look of confidence that he carried with him his entire life. Struck the same year Peter The Great handed Sweden a crushing defeat at the Battle of Poltava, setting the stage for the eventual domination of the entire Baltic region by Russia. Fully original surfaces, absent of any porosity or corrosion. Nothing but fresh unadulterated luster from the fields with an even subtle glow. All of the devices are fully present and accounted for, with only modest wear seen through the uniform and eagle's breast consistent with the assigned grade. A coin that can only inhabit one collection. The exhilaration associated with acquiring this piece can not be underestimated!Estimate: $40,000 - $50,000.NGC AU-53.
