Nicholas II copper Proof Pattern Rouble 1898-AГ PR55 Brown_x000D_ NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-Pn159, Sev-4057, Bitkin-M326._x000D_ Commemorating the Dedication of the monument to Alexander II. Plain_x000D_ edge. Obv. Bare head of Alexander II left. Rev. View of the_x000D_ monument from Ivanoskaya Square. Rich chocolate brown surfaces,_x000D_ with some very minimal wear and light marks. A very pleasing rare_x000D_ proof issue._x000D_ It is not entirely clear if this was meant to be an off-metal_x000D_ pattern rouble, or simply a medallic issue. It mirrors the rouble_x000D_ in silver, missing only the mentioning of the denomination on the_x000D_ reverse, as well as obviously being stuck in a base metal. These_x000D_ reasons, along with the fact there exists a very similar large_x000D_ module medal (~78 mm), lend credence to the idea that this issue_x000D_ was meant to parallel the medal as a smaller companion rather than_x000D_ being a pattern of the rouble. In any event, a very rare and_x000D_ desirable piece.
