Alexander II gold Proof 5 Roubles 1858/7 CПБ-ПФ PR66 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-YA26, Fr-163, Bit-4. A stunningly brilliant and impressive gem, exhibiting richly mirrored, impeccable fields, along with exquisitely frosted devices. A golden-orange radiance has begun to envelope the surfaces, adding further charm and elegance to this already majestic piece. Not surprising, the finest in proof graded by either service, and--likely being the finest known--assuredly worthy of the most premium of bids. For comparison, an NGC PR65 Ultra Cameo (previously in the Belle Glade Collection) realized a hammer of $25,000 in our 2011 NYINC auction (sale 3012, lot 25351).
